Mario Tennis Princess Peach

SolarTempest posted his photos from various spring events so I have some lovely photos of my Tennis Princess Peach costume from when I debuted the costume at Anime North in May. I started sewing this costume in April and I finished it in May. It was meant to be a super simple costume, but I experienced a lot of setbacks. I definitely would like to avoid sewing knit fabric if I can in the future! It was really tricky and frustrating to sew!

The dress pattern was designed by for a Go Go Power Ranger dress that she made. It was pretty perfect for Peach! I designed the collar and the white trim. The trim was made from white felt with heat 'n bond to hold it in place. I also used horsehair braid for the first time along the bottom of the dress to give it a bit of shape.

The tennis racket was a cheap racket from Walmart. My friend helped me paint it and he made stencils for the crown. The racket is definitely the coolest part of the costume. He also was the one that made my crown and brooch.

The shoes were a real pain in the butt to paint, but I don't really have photos of the shoes. They really don't look that amazing, but they kind of complete the look. I'm hoping to get photos at a tennis court of this costume next time we have warm weather so that'll probably be in the spring of 2015.

I was a bit concerned about the wig because I did want to emulate the fact she has her hair up in a ponytail. The Arda Luthien is a long wig and it's pretty heavy so it's not meant to be tied back. Pan helped me clip it up, but the wig fought with me and liked to slip back. Thankfully I had it under control for the shoot that I did with SolarTempest.

This was a fairly fun costume to wear. It's pretty comfy and easy to wear when I plan to do a lot of walking. I wore this during the Nominoichi when I was on my feet for a few hours.
