Finally! I have nice evidence of the finished version of this costume. This is a shot from Youmacon last year. I really wanted to make Rei's Halloween witch Lolita dress the second I saw a figure of it for sale in the dealer's room at Youmacon 2011. I purchased both the Rei and Asuka figure and was determined to Cosplay Rei's outfit in 2012. I'm a much bigger fan of Asuka, but I loved the colours and design of Rei's a little more (it screamed Halloween). I convinced my awesome friend Sakura to be my Asuka and we both got together at Youmacon 2012 for photos. We actually weren't together for very long. I can't wait until next fall when we can shoot together again!
This costume took quite a long time to make. Pretty much everything had ruffles on it and ruffles are just very time consuming. I used two different patterns for the outfit. I decided to make it a blouse and skirt instead of a dress. The skirt was originally a poodle skirt pattern. The hat was made using a dollar store hat as a pattern. I also gutted several dollar store hats for their wiring to give the hat its shape. I purchased red cosmetic lenses for Rei and this was one of the few moments during the con when they actually stayed in. One fell out while I was in the food court. lol Had to wash it thoroughly in my hotel room. XD
You can't see my tights in this photo, but I actually made little felt stars and sewed them to the tights. You also can't see my little hat decoration which was made from a styrofoam ball with clay mache. It's meant to look like a little Angel head. I am so proud of this costume! It was quite an ambitious project, but it all came together and I feel like I learned a lot from it. Plus it's a very Halloweeny costume so I love it to pieces. <3
Please ignore the checkered wristband on my wrist. That was not part of the costume, but it was the hotel policy for guests to wear one and I couldn’t slide it off. (~_~)
I don't have any solo shots of the costume from Youma, but I did do a shoot with Stillvisions on Halloween and just after Youma so hopefully I'll get those photos back later this year or next year and I'll have some pretty fall photos to share with you guys!
Thanks so much to Sakura for being my wonderful Asuka and to her fiancé, SolarTempest, for the wonderful photos! :3
